Abstract

In cases of cancer pains that require continuous pain control, narcotic analgesics are frequently used and it is important to take medicines regularly at fixed times. Hereupon, this research has been carried out to collect basic data for establishment of patient's pain management guide by surveying those who are taking narcotic analgesics about administration reality and satisfaction level. As a result, due to the wrong cognition that narcotic analgesics should be used only when patients have pain, 14 % of new patient and 10 % of re-visit patients took medicines optionally despite the fact that they have to take regularly. Additionally, 58% of patients who took medicines as prescribed feel that pain regulations are working effectively. Moreover, 18 patients(29%) of those who didn't feel pain regulations have reasoned that the effectiveness of pain alleviation has not continued long and the existence of side effects and pain. The dealing methods of pain were appeared in the following order, enduring(33%), physical treatment(fermentation, massage)(28%), increasing the dosage of analgesics(22%), buying and taking the additional analgesics(11%) and taking analgesics earlier(6%). Difficulty to keep the indicated administration time constituted 37% and frequent prescription time comprised of 32% of discomfort when administrating narcotic analgesics. The result of surveying the wanted frequency of taking medicine was that 66% of patients prefer once a day. Moreover, 22% mentioned that the frequency of taking medicine didn't matter because they could endure the complicated medication only if it can alleviate pain. Therefore, to regulate pains effectively and adapt to administration, patient's misperception of narcotic analgesics should be straightened. Simultaneously, patients should be educated to inform accurately about their pain to care givers. Moreover, to raise the patient's satisfaction level about pain regulation, convenient and efficacious medicines should be developed and educations of adverse reaction of narcotic analgesics and its treating and pain regulating methods(massage, finger-pressure therapy, fermentation, deep breathing, relaxation and imagination remedy) that can be done on one's own should be carried out.
