Abstract

This article examines the whole life of “Scientification of All Nation Movement” developed through the 1970s in Korea. This movement formally started from President Park Chung Hee’s annual address in 1973, but can be defined as successor of “Program for the Development of Science and Technology Climate” initiated from 1972 in the aspects of contents and actors. Scientification of All Nation Movement was expanded through the enlightenment and diffusion of S&T by Korea Science Foundation, the exhibition and education of S&T by national or public science museums, and “Saemaul Technology Service” by Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies. Since 1979, new stage of Scientification of All Nation Movement was actively pursued, but this movement was rapidly declined after President Park’s sudden death. We can conclude Scientification of All Nation Movement was not successful because the purpose of this movement was not explicit and detailed executive system was not well established.
