Effect of fluoride application after tooth bleaching using the diode laser

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate enamel surface changes using the diode laser and fluoride application after tooth bleaching treatments. Methods: Forty-eight extracted bovine incisors were selected and embedded in the resin blocks. All the specimens were highly polished and discolored with commercial cock. 35% hydrogen peroxide or 35% carbamide peroxide with and without diode laser were used for bleaching. Specimens were bleached for 1 hour per week during 3 weeks. 1.23% APF gel after bleaching for 4 min per 1 week during 4 weeks were adapted. Surface changes, color changes and microhardness were determined with microhardness tester, colorimeter, Scanning electron microscope. All the collected data were analyzed by repeated measures ANOVA at 0.05% significant level. Results: The color changes(∆E*) of all group as to bleaching frequency were increased. Statistically significant differnence of color change only showed at 35% HP with diode laser tooth bleaching group among ather groups. Microhardness at all group decreased after tooth bleaching. The SEM evaluation showed recovery of the enamel surface of all groups after tooth bleaching. Conclusion: Fluoride application after tooth bleaching with high concentration of bleaching agent can diminish enamel surface changes.
