Abstract
Performance indicators for academic libraries in Korea suggested in this research cover three areas, that is, collection, budget, and human resources, which consists of three subdivisions, respectively. Performance indicators and action plans in this research were prepared, based on the official documents which universities in Korea formally submitted to the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, and the data published by the related institutions. Performance indicators and action plans are intended to draw attentions of university administrators and headquarters, but do not require librarians to prepare for evaluation. The better results would be expected with the development and application of both quantitative and qualitative indicators for information services by standardizing and unifying the process of collecting statistics. It is also expected that periodic and continuing evaluation of academic libraries could help government and universities have a better understanding of and appreciate the significance of academic libraries.
본 연구에 제시하고 있는 대학도서관 평가지표는 기존의 공표된 자료를 중심으로 크게 장서, 예산, 인력 등의 영역으로 구분하였고, 각 영역마다 각각 3개의 세부 항목으로 구성하였다. 특히, 본 연구의 평가 지표와 실행 방안은 각 대학이 교육부 등에 공식적으로 제출한 문서나 유관 기관의 출판물에서 도출한 기본적인 수치를 기반으로 마련되었다. 본 연구의 결과로 제시한 대학도서관 평가 지표 및 실행 방안은 대학도서관에 대한 대학의 최고경영자와 본부의 지원을 유도하면서, 도서관 직원의 평가 관련 업무의 별도 준비를 필요로 하지 않는다는 장점을 갖고 있다. 물론 향후 대학도서관간 통계자료 작성과 관련하여 각 항목에 대한 이해 증진과 통계 작성의 표준화 및 일원화를 통해 정보서비스 항목에 대해 정성적이면서 계량적인 지표의 개발 및 적용이 이루어지면 더 나은 결과를 가져올 수 있다. 또한 이러한 대학도서관 평가가 주기적이고 지속적으로 이루어지면, 대학도서관에 대한 정부나 대학의 인식 제고에 커다란 영향을 미칠 것으로 여겨진다.
