Abstract

The effect of fiber content and fiber length on the tensile and flexural strength of basalt chopped fiber reinforced cement composite was investigated. The tensile and flexural strength of the cement composites were effectively improved by the addition of basalt chopped fiber. The cement composite reinforced with shorter fiber length showed the higher tensile strength. On the contrary, the flexural strength was increased with the increase of fiber length. Also basalt chopped fiber in saturated $Ca(OH)_2$ solution which is similar to the alkaline environment of cement hydration exhibited very low weight loss and high stability even after 3 months of immersion.
