Abstract

Froth flotation of molybdenite ore (Mo 0.35%) from Dong-won NMC mine has been carried out for to produce high-grade molybdenite concentrate. The over 75 g/t dosage of collector (kerosene) was effective to increase the floatability of molybdenite. The stable froth was formed when the ratio of frother vs collector was 1:1 or over. The natural pH of pulp was relatively high as 8.7. The molybdenite concentrate was agglomerated at pH 4-6 close to the point of zero charge (PZC) of molybdenite between pH 2-3. The cddition of sodium silicate (Na$_2$SiO$_3$) as pH modifier could increase pH of pulp up to 11. It was demonstrated that sodium silicate can be used not only as pH modifier but also as depressant of gangue minerals and dispersant of slime. The concentrate of 53.5% Mo grade (MoS$_2$, 89.3%) with 92.7% recovery from NMC molybdenite ores was obtained under conditions of 20% pulp concentration, 75 g/t frother (AF65), 1.25 kg/t depressant (Na$_2$SiO$_3$), pH 10 and 2 cleaning times.
