Seroprevalence of Salmonella Pullorum and Gallinarum in grand parent poultry stock farms during the 2006~2007

Abstract

Seroprevalence of Salmonella Pullorum(SP) and S. Gallinarum(SG) in grand parent poultry stock farms(n=7) was examined between 2006 and 2007. A total of 4,752 sera from 116 chicken houses(n=56, 2006: n=60, 2007) were tested using the rapid serum plate agglutination test(RSAT) and the enzymelinked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). Of 2,120 serum samples tested in 2006, 251(11.8%) sera from 30 chicken houses were positive for RSAT. Of 2,632 sera in 2007, 552(21.0%) from 46 chicken houses were positive for RSAT. Of 803 seropositive samples in RSAT, two samples were positive for ELISA. However, these chicken houses were shown to be seronegative for the additional test. Seroprevalence was determined with RAST according to age; 135 of 1,287 chickens(10.5%; ${ \leq}$20 weeks), 259 of 1,779(14.6%; ${\geq}$21~${ \leq}$41 weeks) and 685 of 2,374(28.9, ${\geq}$42 weeks) were serologically positive, respectively, Consequently, there was no positive chicken house for SG and SP during the tested periods.
