Abstract
There have been many disputes over compact city in the fields of domestic and overseas urban plan. The purpose of this paper is to find out whether compact city characteristics is efficient for transportation energy consumption or not. To testify, we examined characteristics through a theory, literature review of compact city and drew some factors. And then, we analyzed the relationship between the compact city characteristics and transportation energy consumption in the cases of 146 cities within korea, by using multiple regression analysis. Based on these methodology, we classified into some group and we grasp the pattern of transportation energy consumption in domestic city. The main results of this paper are summarized as follows; First, transportation energy consumption is spatially concentrated and imbalanced. Second, transportation energy consumption is highly related with density, mixed land-use, job housing balance, etc, which is defined compact city characteristics. And then, these are clearly affects air pollutant concentration. Finally, It implies that we can be achieve the energy efficiency and air quality improvement in transportation sector, by considering the relevance. Also, it's should be indicate a direction for domestic city development and use strategy as means for urban regeneration in the future.
