Abstract
The Seonjusaji Buddhist temple was a main temple of the Nine Zen Buddhism in Unified Shilla Kingdom which is located in Seongjuri of Boryeong area, Korea. It was originally built as Ohapsa temple during the reign of King Beopwang in Baekje Kingdom (7th century), and it played an important roles in history. The Five-storied Stone Pagoda (Treasure No.19) consists of about 40 rock blocks in total with light gray medium-grained hornblende granite which is the same rock type of basement rocks of the main hall in the temple site. In this pagoda, local black sandstones are partially observed in the flat stones of the eastern corner. As major rocks of hornblende granite is not distributed around the temple site, provenance of this rock was investigated in Boryeong and Buyeo areas within 10 km from the pagoda in diameter. As results of petrographical observation and magnetic susceptibility, the same kind of hornblende granite was found in the Namgokdong and Naehangdong. This rock was confirmed as the identical rock with the rock of the pagoda based on lithological, mineralogical and geochemical properties. Upon historic and geographical investigation, it is probable that the rock materials were supplied from the Namgokdong and Naehangdong areas by transportable means of a sea route and Woongcheon Rive through Suburi in Woongcheon (called Sapo in Baekje Kingdom and Woongcheonpo in Joseon Dynasty).
