Abstract

A new $Cymbidium$ variety 'White Girl' was developed from a cross between $C.$ 'Yakoto' and $C.$ Lucky Rainbow 'Lapin Hot' followed by sowing and line selections at the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science (NIHHS), Rural Development Administration (RDA) in 2007. Trials were conducted from 2000 to 2006 for evaluation and selection of the cultivar. 'White Girl' had medium flowering habit and white flowers (WN155C: petal and sepal) with red (RP59A) lip, when fully opened. The number of flower on each peduncle was 17.1 and the flower diameter was 6.6 cm. It had adequate peduncle height (53.3 cm) compared to leaf length (56.9 cm). The general impression of petals and sepals showed some incurved and some spreading. 'White Girl' had vigorous growth character and rounded flower shape. It bloomed starting from middle of winter in December under the optimal culture conditions.
