The Effect of Acculturative Stress On Anxiety and Depression among Chinese Students in Korea

중국 유학생의 문화적응 스트레스가 불안과 우울에 미치는 영향

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of acculturative stress of chinese students on anxiety and depression among chinese students in Korea. The subjects are composed of 69 chinese students who are in an university of Chung Cheong area. The Acculturative Stress Scale for International Student was used to measure acculturative stress. The anxiety was evaluated through Beck Anxiety Inventory and the depression was measured through CES-D. As a statistical program, SAS was employed to analyze the collected data. Using SAS program, descriptive analysis and simple regression and multiple regression were conducted to study the research questions. The analysis results are as follows: Both hostility and guilty feeling have an influence on anxiety. Feelings of guilt and homesickness have influence on depression.

본 연구는 재한 중국 유학생들을 대상으로 그들의 문화적응 스트레스와 정신건강(불안 및 우울)과의 관련성에 대해 살펴보았다. 연구대상 표집은 충청권에 소재하고 있는 대학교에 재학 중인 중국인 유학생 69명을 대상으로 하였다. 본 연구에서는 문화적응 스트레스를 측정하기 위해서 Acculturative Stress Scale for International Student를 이승종(1996)이 번안한 척도를 사용하였고, 불안을 측정하기 위하여 BAI(Beck Anxiety Inventory)를 Kwon(1992)이 번안한 한국판 척도를 사용하였으며, 우울을 측정하기 위해 CES-D(Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale)척도를 전겸구와 이민규(1992)가 번안한 것을 사용하였다. 연구문제 분석을 위해 단순 및 중다회귀분석이 실시되었다. 구체적으로, 문화적응 스트레스가 불안 및 우울에 미치는 영향을 알아 본 결과, 문화적응 스트레스가 그들의 불안 및 우울에 모두 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 문화적응 스트레스의 하위 영역별로 영향력을 살펴보았을 때, 죄책감 및 지각된 미워함이 불안을 유의하게 설명해 주는 것으로 나타났고, 죄책감 및 향수병이 우울을 유의하게 설명해 주는 것으로 나타났다.
