This study reviewed the characteristics of hydrogeology and groundwater distribution of volcanic rocks in Jeju Island based on drill data and groundwater levels of wells all over the island. In this study, core and water level data were obtained from total 203 wells which were drilled for the purpose of agricultural use, regional water works, saltwater intrusion monitoring, national groundwater monitoring, high-land groundwater survey, mineral water monitoring, and use for golf resorts. Hydrogeological and groundwater analysis was conducted for the eastern area (Gujwa, Seongsan, and Pyoseon watersheds), the western area (Hallim, Hangyeong, Daejeong, and Andeok watersheds), the southern area (West Seogwi, Middle Seogwi, East Seogwi, and Namwon watersheds), and the northern area (Aeweol, West Jeju, Middle Jeju, East Jeju, and Jocheon watersheds). Main aquifers have been identified as clinker and fracture zones existing in feldspar olivine basalt (FOB), acicular feldspar olivine basalt (AFOB), feldspar augite olivine basalt (FAOB), augite olivine basalt (AOB), aphanitic basalt (APB), trachyandesite (TA), trachybasalt (TB), feldspar augite basalt (FAB), feldspar basalt (FB) as well as hyaloclastite being located within Seogwipo Formation. Basal and lower para-basal groundwater appears in the eastern and western areas. Para-basal groundwater and upper groundwater take place in the southern area and northern area, respectively. In addition, the correlation between the occurrence elevation of low permeability layer and the groundwater level is positively strongest in the southern area and became weak to the northern, eastern, and western areas.
