Effects of Self-Consciousness and Communication Apprehension on Interpersonal Communication Competence of Nursing Students

간호대학생의 자의식과 의사소통 불안이 대인의사소통 능력에 미치는 영향

Abstract

This study was examined how self-consciousness and communication apprehension related to interpersonal communication competence of nursing students. The subjects were 623 nursing students. The data collection conducted from Oct 5 to Dec 15, 2009. The psychological tests used in this research included the following; self-consciousness scale, personal report communication apprehension, interpersonal communication inventory. The major findings of this study were follows: 1) Public self consciousness and social anxiety were positively correlated with communication apprehension. 2) Communication apprehension was negatively correlated with interpersonal communication competence. 3) Significant factors influencing interpersonal communication competence were social anxiety, public self consciousness and communication apprehension. The results of the study have implications for nursing pointing out relieving communication apprehension of nursing students and effective communication education programs to develop nurse-client therapeutic relationship.

본 연구는 간호대학생들의 자의식, 의사소통 불안, 대인의사소통 능력을 파악하고 이들 간의 관계 및 대인의사소통 능력에 영향하는 요인을 규명함으로써 간호학생들의 의사소통 및 대인관계 증진과 관련된 교육과 연구 분야에 활용되기 위한 목적으로 실시되었다. 본 연구대상자는 간호대학생 623명이었고, 자료수집 기간은 2009년 10월 5일부터 12월 15일까지이었다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS/WIN12.0 프로그램을 활용하여 분석하였다. 자의식 전체 평균은 3.50이었고 의사소통 불안은 평균 67.07로 높은 수준이었다. 대인의사소통 능력은 평균 74.71로 중상의 점수를 나타내었다. 대상자의 자의식은 의사소통 불안과 유의한 양의 상관관계를 보였고, 의사소통 불안은 대인의사소통 능력과 유의한음의 상관관계를 나타냈다. 대상자의 대인의사소통 능력에 영향하는 요인을 확인하기 위해 다중회귀분석을 실시한 결과 사회적불안과 의사소통 불안, 공적자의식이 낮을수록 대인의사소통 능력은 증가하는 것으로 확인되었다.
