A Case Study on the Implementation of VMI using Electronic Balance System for C-Parts

Abstract

Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) has been well known strategy in a supply chain due to its benefits such as fewer shortages, lower inventory levels and higher sales. In this paper a supply chain consists of multiple suppliers who produce C-parts likewise fasteners and single manufacturer who produces industrial pumps is considered. A VMI system using electronic balances and web-based management system is suggested to enhance the information sharing between each supplier and manufacturer. The suggested system is installed and operated in the factories of suppliers and manufacturer, and 45% of inventory management costs are reduced.
