Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find how the solar control facades formulate various design elements by design characteristic analysis. The methodology is composed of a literature analysis for the theoretical study and case studies for the design development processes. As a conclusion, it is found that the solar control facades play roles of environmental control, energy conservation and aesthetics. Firstly, in the beginning, the solar control facades block direct sunlight and mitigate glare, and gradually develop to make better use of natural light. Secondly, the development of technologies and materials helps the solar control facades to have various forms and functions. Lastly, the solar control facades, themselves provides facades of the buildings from aesthetic perspective in addition to functionality. It is expected that the solar control facades would have more developed forms and functions with the help of the advanced technologies and materials.
