Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the need of character education perceived by nursing professors in nursing education. A cross-sectional study design was used. Data were collected from deans of nursing professors at 90 national nursing schools from January to March 2013. Nursing professors perceived that character education is very important ($4.53{\pm}0.62$) but the character level of nursing students is a little high ($3.57{\pm}0.74$). And they thought nursing students to be required character education lately to become a qualified nurse ($4.61{\pm}0.55$). The character education for nursing had to be included caring, manners, persistence, responsibility, respect, honesty, ethics, self-regulation and self-confidence. In conclusion character education program is needed in nursing education for fit to practice and have to be continuous during the undergraduate nursing program. It is required to develop the character education program structured and sustainable.
