Analysis on Index of Park and Green Area Per Person Based on its Service Area - The Case of Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul -

Abstract

Parks and green spaces are public and essential facilities for the improvement of quality of life, ensuring the effectiveness and equity of their distributions. However, the indicators regarding on park distribution do not fully reflect its accessibility in citizens' daily life. Although previous studies have developed indices of park accessibility, their results are not enough to consider population density or the overlapped service areas of parks and green spaces. Thus this study makes a solution by developing an index of 'park and green area per person' following processes: (1) making a projection of population distribution based on floor area ratio and residential area ratio of each zoning area, (2) reflecting each service area of parks and green spaces. Through the case study of Dongdaemun-gu, the effectiveness and usefulness of the new index about park and green area per person have been shown. Also the guidelines about constructing and managing future park and green spaces are addressed based on the comparison of this newly developed index to the previously used one.
