Abstract

To understand the characteristics of community structure of vegetation in Mt. Jilyeong in Taean-gun, Chungnam province located on the west coast of Korea, a phytosociological vegetation survey was conducted to classify the actual vegetation types and flora. The overall vegetation types in Mt. Jiryeong were classified into 7 vegetation units, which include Pinus thunbergii community group at the top and the following in the community unit: Quercus serrata community, Quercus mongolica community, Koelreuteria paniculata community, Mallotus japonicus community, and Vitex rotundifolia community. Furthermore, Quercus serrata community was classified into 2 groups of Quercus dentata group and Pinus densiflora group, and Quercus mongolica community was classified into 2 groups of Orixa japonica group and Styrax japonica group. Flora Mt. Jilyeong encompassed 203 taxa: 62 families, 142 genera, 178 species, 1 subspecies, 25 varieties, and 203 taxa. Among them, one species of Korea endemic species was found and floristic regional indicator plants designated by the Ministry of Environment were confirmed as 32 taxa, including Cimicifuga heracleifolia in Grade 4, four taxa in Grade 3, and 25 taxa in Grade 1. Among rare and endemic species designated by the Korea Forest Service, there were 3 taxa of vulnerable species VU, which are 1 taxon of Koelreuter iapaniculata, Metensia asiatica of DD, and Lithospermum erythrorhizon of LC, and Orixa japonica was found as species vulnerable to climate change. Naturalized plants at the research site were confirmed as a total of 3 families and 4 taxa. The naturalized ratio (Number of naturalized plant types/Number of all plant types ${\times}100$) was approximately 2.0%, which is below the average naturalized ratio in Korean mountainous regions 4.4%.
