Abstract

Several adsorption experiments were carried out by activated carbon that was manufactured from exhausted coffee, to find out removal characteristics of nitrate. The nitrate removal efficiency was increased with dosage rate of activated carbon or contact time for adsorption. The equilibrium state of nitrate adsorption was arrived after 120 minutes. At that time, the nitrate removal efficiency were determined to 59.0%, 86.0%, 90.0%, 91.0%, 95.0% on each activated carbon dosage of 10 g/L, 20 g/L, 30 g/L, 40 g/L, 50 g/L. And the nitrate removal efficiency had a tendency to increase with a round of neutral value of pH, such as 90.0% on pH 3, 92.0% on pH 6, 93% on pH8, 81.0% on pH 10. The fluctuation of temperature was a little effect to the increasing of nitrate removal efficiency; 80.0% on $2^{\circ}C$, 81.0% on $10^{\circ}C$, 85.0% on $20^{\circ}C$, 87% on $30^{\circ}C$. On the SEM images analysis, a lot of pores on surface of activated carbon from exhausted coffee were supplied as an adsorption space against to soluble nitrate.
