Factors Influencing of Evidence-Based Practice Competency in Nursing Students

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to verify the relationships among critical thinking disposition, information literacy and evidence-based practice (EBP) competency, and especially to identify the factors influencing of EBP competency in nursing students. A cross-sectional design was used, with a convenience sample of 430 nursing students at 5 nursing colleges in G city and C province. Data were collected through self-evaluation questionnaires from May to June, 2011. The data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and stepwise multiple linear regression with SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. The mean score of nursing student competency for EBP was $3.42{\pm}0.39$ points. EBP competency was significantly correlated with information literacy (r=.725, p<.001) and critical thinking disposition (r=.551, p<.001). Factors influencing of EBP competency in nursing students were identified as information literacy (${\beta}=.606$, p<.001), critical thinking disposition (${\beta}=.210$, p<.001), and completion of research methodology (${\beta}=.132$, p<.001), and these factors explained 60.5% of the total variability. The results of this study were to identify factors that influence EBP competency in nursing students. Therefore, it supports the implementation of the educational method as an integral aspect of improving EBP competency.

본 연구의 목적은 간호대학생의 근거기반실무 역량에 영향을 미치는 요인을 규명하기 위한 서술적 관계 조사연구이다. G광역시와 C도에 소재한 5개 4년제 간호학과에 재학 중인 간호학생 430명을 대상으로 질문지를 이용하여 비판적 사고성향, 정보활용능력, 근거기반실무 역량에 대해 자료수집 하였고, 수집된 자료는 SPSS WIN 21.0 program을 이용하여 기술통계, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson 상관계수(correlation coefficients), 단계별 다중회귀분석(stepwise multiple regression)으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 근거기반실무 역량은 정보활용능력(r=.725, p<.001), 비판적 사고성향(r=.551, p<.001)과 양의 상관관계를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 정보활용능력, 비판적 사고성향, 연구방법론 수업 이수는 간호대학생의 근거기반실무 역량을 60.5% 설명하는 것으로 검증되었다. 본 연구를 통해 비판적 사고성향과 정보활용능력 및 연구방법론 수업 이수가 근거기반실무 역량에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 확인되었기 때문에, 학부과정에서 충분히 학습될 수 있도록 교수학습법을 개발하여 다양한 교과목에 접목하는 것이 필요하다. 이를 바탕으로 간호대학생은 졸업 후 임상현장에서 근거기반실무 역량을 발휘하게 되고, 임상간호문제를 해결하기 위하여 최적의 근거를 사용함으로써 실무의 향상을 이끌 수 있을 것이다.
