Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between internet addiction level and autonomic nervous system function in college students. The subjects of this study were 138 college students at university located in Deagu. The research design was descriptive correlation study. Data were collected from June 2013 to February 2014, using a questionnaire for measuring internet addiction and heart rate variability (SA-6000, Medicore, Korea) for autonomic nervous system function. The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients with SPSS/WIN 18.0. The results of internet addiction level according to the general characteristics of subjects showed a significant difference in gender (t=2.031, p=.044), BMI (t=4.288, p=.016), health status (t=3.317, p=.022), and sleeping status (t=3.975, p=.021). Correlation between internet addiction level and autonomic nervous system function shows that the higher internet addiction level, it seems to have a positive relationship with log TP (r=.281, p=.001), log LF (r=.243, p=.004), LFHF ratio (r=.173, p=.043). It means that internet addiction affects the autonomic nervous system and by accelerating the sympathetic nervous system, it causes the imbalance of sympathetic and parasympathetic system and have influence on autonomic nervous system. It is necessary to develop an intervention program to prevent and eliminate internet addiction.

인터넷중독 정도와 자율신경계 기능의 상관관계는 인터넷중독 정도가 높을수록 log TP(r=.281, p=.001), log LF(r=.243, p=.004), LF/HF ratio(r=.173, p=.043)가 유의한 정적 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다.
