A Study on the Firm Internationalization and Performance : Focused on the Moderating Effect of Corporate Social Responsibility

기업의 국제화와 경영성과 : 사회적 책임활동의 조절효과를 중심으로

Abstract

This study investigated the moderating effects of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on the relationship between firm internationalization and its performance. The companies executed the CSR activity using the published index of economic justice (KEJI index) from 2005 to 2009 were surveyed. The subjects of the study were 200 largest CSR activity companies selected more than three times. This study investigated relevance of CSR activity, firm internationalization and performance variables. Results are as follows. First, the higher the proportion of international companies showed positively CSR activities, business performance is also higher. Second, groups showed significant differences on consumer protection satisfaction, environmental protection satisfaction, employee satisfaction. Third, CSR activity moderated the relationship between internationalization and firm performance. Fourth, environmental protection satisfaction in CSR activity moderated the relationship between internationalization and firm performance. This study proposed that CSR activity and environmental protection factor are very important in firm performance. The requirements of the positive CSR activity is presented for sustainable management.

본 연구는 기업의 국제화와 경영성과에서 기업의 사회적 책임활동의 조절효과를 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구를 위하여 경제정의연구소에서 2005년부터 2009년까지 발표된 경제정의지수(KEJI index)를 활용하였다. CSR활동 200대 기업에 3번 이상 속한 기업을 대상으로 CSR활동, 국제화정도, 경영성과 지표를 제시하고 변수들의 연관성을 규명하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기업의 국제화 비중이 높을수록 CSR활동이 활발하였으며, 경영성과도 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 기업의 국제화에 따라 CSR세부활동 중 소비자보호 만족도, 환경보호 만족도, 종업원 만족도에서 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 셋째, 국제화정도와 기업의 경영성과에서 CSR활동의 조절효과가 나타났다. 넷째, 국제화정도와 기업의 경영성과에서 CSR세부활동 중 환경보호 만족도요인의 조절효과가 나타났다. 국제화 기업에게 적극적인 CSR활동은 경영성과에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 중요한 요인임을 확인하였으며, 환경보호에 대한 중요성이 증대됨에 따라 CSR활동 중 환경보호요인이 경영성과에 중요하게 작용한다는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 기업의 지속가능경영을 위해 적극적인 CSR활동이 필요함을 제시하였다.
