Abstract

Global warming and climatic change have caused severe environmental problems and threatened subalpine plants. Identification of life cycles and construction of database on temperature and humidity would be useful for conservation strategies of subalpine plants. The aim of this study was to analyze flowering time and period of the five plants; Lilium cernuum Kom, Primula modesta var. fauriae, Trientalis europaea, Ligusticum tachiroei and Streptopus ovalis for bioclimatic research of subalpine region. These plants were naturally growing at the subalpine region of Mt. Gaya. For this study, we analyzed temperature and humidity of the study areas based on flowering time for 5 years. The result of reliability analysis showed a higher Cronbach Alpha value of 0.741. The result indicated that Lilium cernuum Kom. boomed on July 23rd(SD=6.5), Primula modesta var. fauriae on May 8th(SD=8.7), Trientalis europaea. on June 1st(SD=2.8), Ligusticum tachiroei on August 16th(SD=4.3) and Streptopus ovalis on May 22nd(SD=5.1). The correlation of flowering period with meteorological elements was positives (+) and correlation coefficient of daily maximum temperature(0.711) and daily average temperature(0.613) was relatively higher in flowering period. The research presented here is a first step to develop a conservation strategy for subalpine plants. The study only analyzed meteorological elements for flowering time and period of subalpine plants. Therefore, further researches on a more comprehensive analysis of subalpine species are needed.
