Abstract

This study developed a scale for college freshmen to review their level of college life adaptation, and then selected a group that had difficulties adapting to college life. For this purpose, new questions that are best suited to each adaptation area (academic, social, personal emotional, and career) were developed. In this process, the content validity was reviewed by experts, the final questions and the sub-factor structures were constructed during the preliminary and main surveys. In addition, the concurrent validity examined with the existing college students' adaptability test, and the standards that distinguish adaptive and maladaptive groups were derived. As a result, 60 final scale questions and sub-factors were constructed for each adaptation area: academic (self-efficacy and resilience), social (self-efficacy, interpersonal competence in school, and competence of family relationships), personal emotional (self-esteem, emotional control and stability), and career (identity, confidence, and activities). The standards that distinguish into risk-, potential risk-, adaptive-, and success-group were derived. It would be used to help college students understand their college adaptation level.
