Abstract

Because dysregulation of cancer cell motility is generally considered to be critical step in cancer progression such as invasive and metastatic stages, effects of flavonoids including resveratrol, piceatannol, quercetin, and rutin on cancer cell motility were investigated in human fibrosarcoma HT 1080 cell line. HT 1080 cells were cultured in serum-free medium with various concentrations ($0-400{\mu}M$) of each flavonoid. Wound healing assay showed resveratrol and piceatannol inhibited cell migration, and Boyden chamber assay also confimed both flavonoids significantly inhibited cell motility dose-dependently (p<0.05). Quercetin and rutin had no effect on cell migration and cell motility. Inhibition of cell motility by resveratrol and piceatannol was not associated with cell cytotoxicity of flavonoids during 2 hr incubation. These results indicate regulation of cell motility by resveratrol and piceatannol could provide insights into functional role of food component in cancer treatment.
