A Phenomenological Study Experience of Suicide Attempt in Old Age

노인의 자살시도 후 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate meaning and essence of suicide after suicide attempt of old people experiencing suicide attempt in old age. It was analyzed by Giorgi's analysis approach (four stages), applying Giorgi's descriptive phenomenological research methodology. The study carried out individual in-depth interview with the total four old people and carried out recording and memo. The study had 5-10 interviews and carried out repetitive questions in a form of open and semi-structural question. The results of the study were as follows. The study drew three core components of meaning of suicide after suicide attempt of old people experiencing suicide attempt- Attempt suicide to escape from pain, wound left and new pain are created and find how to live hard by being suited to life. Through such results, the study can raise understand about senile suicide by grasping subjective experience of senile suicide attempters, grope concrete intervention strategy for suicide attempters' mind and repetitive suicide prevention and be used as ground data for development for substantial programs.
