Abstract
This study deals with the three-lane roundabout. The roundabout was a system that the design and operating methods of existing rotaries were improved. Roundabouts can be divided into the rotary and modern roundabout according to the travelling priority. The objective of this study is to analyze the operational efficiency of 3-lane rotary and roundabout by scenario. In pursuing the above, this study designs the scenarios which can reflect the directional traffic volumes, and analyzes the average control delay of 3-lane roundabout and rotary using VISSIM software. The main results are as follows. First, the increase of inscribed circle diameter(ICD) reduces the average delay time of two systems. For example, 10m increase of ICD is evaluated to increase the capacity of the rotary and roundabout by about 400pcph. Second, the operational efficiency of roundabout is analyzed to have 1.8 ~ 2.0 times of rotary.
