The Influence of Ego-resilience and Stress of Clinical Practice on Clinical Competence in Nursing Students

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate ego-resilience and stress of clinical practice which influence clinical competence in nursing students. Methods: As a descriptive study, the data were collected from 287 nursing students by means of self-reported questionnaires. The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 20.0. Results: In ego-resilience, there were significant differences in gender, age, grade, satisfaction on theoretical education and satisfaction on clinical practice. Stress of clinical practice differed in satisfaction on theoretical education and satisfaction on clinical practice. Also, gender, academic achievement, satisfaction on theoretical education and satisfaction on clinical practice differed with clinical competence. Clinical competence was positively related to ego-resilience but negatively related to stress of clinical practice. According to the result of multiple regression, ego-resilience, satisfaction on clinical practice, satisfaction on theoretical education and academic achievement were significant factors on clinical competence explaining 34.0% of the variances. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that developing of ego-resilience, satisfaction on clinical practice in nursing students is important to promote clinical competence.
