Communication Apprehension and Performance of Using Communication Skills according to Nursing Students' Enneagram Personality Types

Abstract

The purpose of study was to identify Communication apprehension & performance of using communication skills according to nursing students' Enneagram personality types. With a descriptive survey design, a self report study was conducted 291 nursing students. The research tools of this study were Korean enneagram personality types, personal report communication apprehension, performance of using communication skills. The data analyzed by t-test, one way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient with SPSS/win program. 1) In the Enneagram personality types, type 9 were highly measured. 2) Performance of using communication skills were meaningful differences with grade, clinical practice experiences. 3) Communication apprehension and performance of using communication skills were meaningful differences with Enneagram personality types. 4) Communication apprehension was negatively correlated with performance of using communication skills. The results of study suggest that there is need of communication skills education program considering communication apprehension and nursing students' Enneagram personality types.

본 연구는 간호대학생의 에니어그램 성격유형과 의사소통 불안, 의사소통기술 수행 정도를 파악하고 에니어그램 성격 유형에 따른 의사소통 불안과 의사소통기술 수행의 차이를 확인하고, 그 관계를 규명하기 위한 목적으로 실시되었다. 본 연구의 대상은 서울시 일개 대학 간호학생 291명으로 편의 표출로 선정하였다. 자료수집 기간은 2013년 9월 23일부터 10월 18일까지이었고, 수집된 자료는 SPSS/WIN12.0 프로그램을 활용하여 분석하였다. 에니어그램 성격 유형은 9번(중재자) 유형이 가장 많았고, 힘의 중심 유형별로는 본능중심이 가장 많았다. 의사소통기술 수행은 성별, 학년, 임상실습 경험, 정신간호 실습경험에서 유의한 차이가 있었다. 2학년이 1학년과 3학년보다, 임상실습 경험이 있는 경우가 없는 경우보다 의사소통기술 수행점수가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 에니어그램 성격 유형에 따라 의사소통 불안은 6번(충성가) 유형이 8번(지도자) 유형보다 높았다. 의사소통기술 수행 정도는 힘의 중심별 성격 유형으로 감정중심과 본능중심이 사고중심보다 높았고, 2번(조력자) 유형이 4번(예술가) 유형보다 높았다. 의사소통 불안과 의사소통기술 수행은 역의 상관관계로 나타났다. 본 연구결과 의사소통 불안과 의사소통기술 수행은 역의 상관관계를 나타내 간호학생들의 의사소통기술 수행을 높일 수 있도록 의사소통 불안을 중재해야 함을 확인할 수 있었다. 추후 성격 유형별로 의사소통기술 수행과의 관련성을 더 파악함으로써 의사소통 행위를 교육시 성격 유형별로 접근할 필요가 있다고 사료된다.
