Abstract

The purpose of this study was investigate the factors influencing health promotion behavior in high school students. The study subjects were 185 high school students. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe' test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient, multiple regression analysis based on the SPSS 18.0 program. The subjects scored health-promotion behavior (2.38), perceived health status (3.52), self-efficacy (2.65), perceived benefit (4.36), perceived barrier (2.36), stress (21.12), depression (12.34). There were significant differences in their health-promotion behavior according to such general characteristics as religion. Performance in the health-promotion behavior was significantly correlated with perceived health status, stress, self-efficacy, depression, perceived barrier, perceived benefit. The most important factor that affects performance in the health-promotion behavior of highschool students was stress. The combination of stress, self-efficacy, depression, religion, perceived benefit accounted for 50.5% of the variance of health-promotion behavior. Stress was the most powerful variance of health-promotion behavior. Therefore, health-promotion programs that decrease stress should be developed to promote a healthier behavior among high school students.
