Abstract

In this study, we evaluated the thermal insulation of different materials and characterized these materials for commercial wetsuits. The performance characteristics of three different wetsuit materials were examined. Parts of the wetsuit including the neck, bodice, and knee were prepared. Surface morphology was examined using an image analyzer microscope system. In the tensile test, the load, elongation, and initial modulus were obtained for the different wetsuit materials. To investigate the thermal insulation property of wetsuits, we assessed the differences in surface temperatures by a heat storage test method. The thermal resistance was estimated by heat flux experiments on a thermal mannequin, exposed to $20^{\circ}C$, to obtain the thermal insulation of the different wetsuit materials under study.
